Day 4: Osoyoos - Princeton - Hope - Vancouver
Day 4 - 407 km (1,320 km total)
Very warm start followed by some pleasant rains, super curvy turns after Princeton, cold weather and fog before Hope, and a final stretch to Vancouver.
Day 4 was a BIG day. It felt like a push of endurance today because of the slightly longer distance/time and the weather.
Things started out quite warm in Osoyoos and we pulled over just in time to get our rain gear on for a pleasantly on/off rainy drive to Princeton. The RainX we are using in the helmets has been AMAZING. The landscape around Osoyoos is so cool... like rock giants trying to free themselves of the earth .
We stopped just after Princeton for a quick side-of-highway lunch and then got into a very cool section of road with lots of turns (Princeton to Eastgate). This one was quite different because the max speed was 100km/h, but the turns required a slow down to 50km/h sometimes, so we really.had to pay attention and be focused. HWY 3A to Kootenay Bay on the other hand was a consistent speed, making it fun but easy.
Things got a bit cold and wet as we drove through Manning Park, which sapped a lot of energy out of us. We could have done with a stop in the area to refocus and relax a bit. There is a lot to learn in managing fatigue and comfort levels on a bike trip!
We warmed up in Hope with some hot chocolates and then finished the last stretch to Vancouver without issue, this time making a stop at least every hour.
By the time we got in I was exhausted . A bit of a headache (wind noise and vibration?) and a little tummy ache (too much chocolate after dinner?). Tonight’s sleep was great though and I’m pumped to meet up with Andres and Marta Pietrzak for some sunshi! Day 5 will be an easy day to get to Victoria
