Day 13: Port Hardy - Prince Rupert - Terrace
Day 13 - 144 km (2,400 km total)
15hr overnight ferry up the inside passage. Views you'd expect in a movie. Met a new friend Carla Hoger. Best burger ever in Prince Rupert. Food coma. Short ride day to relax. Sushi, naps, local craft beer, more sushi.
We got up early to enjoy a nice breakfast on the ferry with some more stunning views of the inside passage out the window. We didn't see a ton of wildlife, bit we DID see lots of floating logs, some of which had birds on them...
Meeting new people with an ongoing pandemic is tough, because people can have different risk tolerance and boundaries may need to be verbalized. It's so unnatural for me not to get close to others, or touch and hug , or pass something to look at; now I actually have to stop a conversation to align on Covid measure. It also feels weird to use hand sanitizer immediately after touching something someone gives me. It's not something I enjoy at all... But I guess it's what we need to do!
We stopped at an unassuming cafe in Prince Rupert to make a plan for the day. The burger and basil tomato soup absolutely blew me away. Soooo good! We also learned a lesson not to eat heavy food in the middle of the day while riding, as we both felt tired and sluggish and needed to pull over for a break to refocus.
Given the burger coma situation, we decided to just stay in Terrace for the afternoon instead of visiting Kitimat. It was a great choice as it gave us time to explore, nap, check some food places out and walk around.
I like Terrace. It's a pretty cool place with some trendy shops and restaurants popping up. Reminded me a bit of Golden, BC.
