Day 0: Travel to Yangon, Myanmar
Left Calgary today for LA. Their airport was really confusing. No clear directions on where we needed to go. Flying 13 hours to Taiwan, and arriving in Yangon, Myanmar at 6am after that.
I got a lot of positive feedback from people about the travel updates for India last time around. A lot of comments where around the introspective nature of the content. That there was more to it then "I went here and did this". It raised some questions about what exactly I write about and share. How personal do i want to get? Who will be reading this? Should I censor certain aspects of my posts because some people know more about me than others?
I firmly believe that revealing your vulnerability to another person is what progresses a relationship forward. It's risky to do because you may get hurt; shamed, laughed at, made to feel less-then... This is something that is on my mind as I share about my journey with you all. We will see how much is revealed.
Since returning from India I've thought a lot about how I relate to my joy of photography while travelling, and what I want that activity to look like. It's difficult because I have to choose to either live in the moment, or remove myself from the moment to capture it. There is no time or place I enjoy photography more than when travelling. I find it is easier to do, as I am actively seeking beauty where I take it for granted at home.
One of my goals for this trip is to explore videography more. I want to capture enough video footage to be able to put together a documentary style travel piece. I think I've settled on "Why do we travel?" as the inspiring question. We will see where that goes. I used the word capture, because as most of you know, following through and finishing projects is not my forte. Capturing moments on photo and film brings me joy, regardless of whether or not I do something with the footage.
I'm looking forward to our first rickshaw ride in an unfamiliar country feeling jet lagged and confused. I'll know for sure I'm away from home at that point, and I'll pick up the journey then.
